ARKZN # 4 - Updates on route and distances
I'm back after an excellent recce of the route.
It could be cool on the night hike so take some whiskey.
I hope the paddle isn't windy; bring outriggers.
George says you are responsible people. Been talking to the farmers and some will make the Movie "Saving Private Ryan" look like a picnic" Check out the danger zones later in the week.
I will be posting links to maps on blog http://arkzn4.blogspot.com/ for competitors to get an early indication of the area. You can get the maps yourself or download them from the new race website: http://sites.google.com/site/arkzn4/
I will have maps available at the start, but only one per team and the quality may be dodgy...........?
The blog and website mentioned above are the official correspondence routes for the teams from now on.
Anyone can follow the blog, you just have to register.
Only teams can publish to the blog, so you had better start practicing.
Instructions are going out again later today.
Teams will be publishing to the blog during the race as a way of proving that they have reached the checkpoints. If you lose coms you have to keep it in the camera to prove that you were there; but there is a penalty attached for not blogging checkpoints, and it's not just time.....
Anything you send the blog about your team this week will be posted on the website. See team Yoshimi's page for example http://sites.google.com/site/arkzn4/team-yoshimi-1.
On Friday The blog will be cleared and placed in race mode, so that we can track the teams from Saturday morning 6h00
You will get an sms at 6h00 on Saturday morning telling you who in Pietermaritzburg has your instructions. I'll be posting a clue on the blog later this week. Perhaps locals know him and can help you identify him.
Please send your stuff to the blog and I'll update the site.
Oh and of course you can enter the race. We have eight teams ready to go.
Never has a race been as easy to take part in.
Now you just have to finish it........

YEEEAAAH AND TALLY HO.
The entries are coming in. I've invited the seven entries so far to publish to the blog and get their toys working. The race is definitely going on. Everything is done.
You wont be plotting, but may have to transfer points from a master map.
I have to have a media release in by Monday, so please publish some team photo's and stuff as the format is making a bit of a stir among my media mates.
The finish is 100km from the starts, but the roads aren't bad and it's all through safe areas.
Team Lickety split are a six member team looking for two finishers and fun racers, but not totally racing snakes. Contact William on william@contactmarketing.co.za if you're keen.
This is the most fun I've had trying to organise something, what with teh cowboy approach and the technology. It's ground breaking.

Scouting for ARKZN4
"Good questions" said the Baron, as he put his boots on the table and slugged back the Captain Jack.
"It's rough out there' but d_ _ _n beautiful"
"It's my country, Pure and Precious"
I waited.
"Look it ain't no picnic, but very doable for most levels...and one member can sit out each leg, so choose wisely"
"The choices are just that, not tricks, just choices. I'm not trying to kill anyone...."
" I reckon McCain will take 12 - 14 hrs. They'll be eating supper whilst others are crying"
"This stuff is weak"
I poured him another slug and he slapped the white winter dust off his hat.
'Look" he said, eyes piercing mine.
"I understand that some of these AR types aren't like I am,...perhaps a little soft. So I've made the last leg sort of optional"
"If they turn right they'll be in bed in under 20 minutes. If they do it, it's 3-4 hours in Gods own country"
"Sort of a final short cut, for,... how you say 'Wussies'"
I flinched and joined him in the bottle.
"That's my boy" he said
He paused; "Really it's about people; those drivers are going to meet some awfully interesting folk, like the amazing race they'll have to look sharp to arrive at the rendezvous on time, although the navigation is really easy for the drivers; safety and all that." He rolled his eyes pathetically.
I kicked the chair from under him, but he was already on his feet reaching for the bottle.
He threw a knife at me, but I've known him for years and deflected it into the sink.
"There's not enough balls in the world' he laughed. "This curry is weak"
'It's under the counter" I replied.
"Your in big trouble my boy" he smirked.
"Your lady found the barbel in the bathtub"
Blast. I'd forgotten about them.
"The fishing was good, I hope the paddlers are...."
